100 Days of Practice - Week 1

After a fair amount of thought and deliberation, I decided to dip my toe in the 100 Days of Practice challenge on Instagram.

The idea was first created by classical violinist Hilary Hahn. She wanted to show the behind the scenes process of what it’s like to learn and prepare music for her amazing concerts and performances. (You can follow her 100 days on Instagram here.)

Usually from the outside we only see the finished product, which is a highly polished performance or recording; and while this product sounds amazing, the process of getting there does not always sound beautiful. It is filled with days, months and even years of work, many mistakes, wrong notes, experimentation and good days and bad days.

Hilary has done 4 rounds of the 100 Days of Practice already, and I’ve always been a little reluctant to join. To me practicing has always been a safe space where you can explore and make mistakes, and the though of sharing the processes that shows the rough behind the scenes picture is a little out of my comfort zone.

But the 100 days is not about being perfect, it’s about showing up where you are, and sharing the behind the scenes journey.

While I will do my best to make all 100 days, I don’t think I will post 100 days in a row. Since I double violin and voice I will also show a mixture of both in my practice.

If you follow me on Instagram you can see the daily videos as I post them in my reels, but I will also do weekly summary posts here on my blog.

I hope you enjoy a little look at this behind the scenes process :)
